This reminded me of a wonderful old joke for dog lovers:
You want to learn something about love? Lock your dog and your wife in the trunk, drive around for an hour or so, then open the trunk and see which one is happy to see you.
Yeah, stopping the world to savor the moment might be the only answer at this point ... and yes, Puccini definitely rocks it every time. As another nugget of wisdom from Mick the Jagger advises: "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you might get what you need."
