Here’s What Will Happen By Christmas

Or not. Predictions are a fool's errand. However …

Lookit, I’ve made some pretty good calls over the past 25 years: laying out the spiraling collapse of media and advertising, warning (since 2015) the same about democracy under Trump and ridiculing the prospects for Crystal Pepsi. You know, not Nostradamus stuff, but intermittently prescient.

But there have also been some misses. Like pissing on the then-new McDonald’s theme — I’m Lovin’ It — and forecasting immediate failure. That was in 2003. In 2014, before clarity coalesced, I said to 1.4 million radio listeners: “Donald Trump is the kid in the back of the class faking farting sounds with his hands; he is not going to win the Republican nomination.”

Slightly missed the mark, those did. And so I’ve tried to stay out of the predictions business. At best it’s a crapshoot, and not great for your journalistic credibility.

However …

Clarity is once again coalescing. I believe I know what the next six weeks will bring in the chaotic nightmare of American freedom.

First, the Supreme Court — prodded by the Trump administration for an accelerated decision on tariffs — will just this once pause its own relentless affirmation of despotic presidential power and rule for the plain language of the Constitution by finding that only Congress may levy taxes and duties, and that Trump’s claim of emergency powers is hollow absent an actual emergency.

Now, this is a 6-3 Conservative-majority court that has ruled campaign donations are “speech” and voting rights are fully restored in the south and the president cannot be prosecuted for almost any crime committed in office and, if I recall, kindergartners are free to open-carry Stinger anti-aircraft missile launchers.

But they are also, supposedly, “originalists” who hew to the explicit words of the framers. They will rule 5-4 against Trump, with Roberts and Coney Barrett joining the liberals and Coney Barrett writing the decision.

This decision will trigger a ruptured spleen of crazy. Trump will not shrug and say, “You win some, you lose some.” He will take to Truth Social with something like this:

The RIGGED “STUPE-ENE” COURT, BRIBED BY GEORGE SOROS AND OTHER WOKE RADICAL LEFT TRAITORS, has lost its legitimatey AND MUST BE DISPANDDED. Today I will sign an Emergency Executive Order suspending the so-called “Judiciary.” I have ordered the Department of War to deploy at Federal Court Buildings in every Democrat-run city until order is Restored. Our country is going to HELL. OUR GREAT DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE WILL IMMEDIATELY BEGIN AN INVESTIGATION INTO CORRUPTION THE LIKES OF WHICH YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN!! THE PENALTY FOR TREASON IS DEATH! MAKE MARTIAL LAW GREAT AGAIN!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Grotesquely, but not surprisingly, Republicans in Congress will not immediately commence impeachment proceedings. We will hear “What the president is trying to say …” and “I haven’t seen any tweets. I’m too busy doing the work of the American people to jump down your liberal rabbit holes.” Some will say Trump’s feed was hacked, or brush it off as an AI hoax. But others will look at what happened at the polls on Tuesday and imagine what will happen to them in the midterm election 364 days from now. And the house of cards, built on fearmongering and lies, will begin to wobble. Yet impeachment will amount to little more than whispers.

Trump will see the various degrees of backlash, not to mention humiliating repudiation, and in the space of 36 hours publish ever more delusional lies and threats. He will fire people left and right, including his lawyers and some of his most evil confederates: Hegseth, Patel, Noem.

His cabinet, realizing their blind fealty can no longer be rationalized, will be secretly lobbied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to invoke the 25th Amendment. And they will do so. Trump will be removed from office. MAGA, warriors for Christ, will mobilize, heavily armed. Civil disorder will reign in the land. There will be many deaths.

And JD Vance will be President of the United States. Under the stewardship of this soulless-but-bright, non-insane, impunity-endowed miscreant, the 2025 Project will proceed as planned.

And our Republic will not be saved.
