Read Pluto Walks the Earth, Chapter 14: Hoover Damnation
Gus
You will think this is sour grapes, but I’m telling you it’s all about worrying about Pluto. It’s a Thursday evening. June 14. I have the whole day shift and turn over the till at Chakra ’n’ Awe at 6 pm sharp and race back home for our Enlightening, but Pluto is basically a no-show. I mean, he’s physically present, but otherwise just kind of elsewhere.
Not like him. He’s rocking the faux Navajo robe, as usual, and he’s on time to begin our work — just not the same eager beaver I’m accustomed to.
First thing is, I ask him what Vineeta had to say, and he says he hasn’t been in touch yet. This kind of frosts me, because 1) She can keep him out of trouble in Vegas, 2) She can give him a home-cooked meal, and 3) She’s a genius for matching people with their path. How genius? The joke is she introduced Siegfried and Roy. But seriously, she’s a connector. Not that spiritual handyman isn’t a path, itself, but let’s put it the nice way and say it is definitely the road less traveled. Which means obstacles that maybe Pluto isn’t equipped to surmount. I mean, I’m getting used to him, and he is far more studious than I could have imagined, but he’s still — how do I put this — a little … vague? This Thursday evening especially.
