Turn the Page, March 2022
At the end of every month, Bob shares observations about the world we inhabit, the times in which we live and the absurdity of the whole damn thing.
Be Careful What You Wish For
Frances “Sissy” Farenthold, the late Texas Democrat, has posthumously fulfilled her vision from 1974, when she said:
I am working for the time when unqualified blacks, browns and women join the unqualified men in running our government.
Sure enough, a mere 48 years later, shitty female politicianwise, it’s kind of a bonanza.
Gosh, I can remember a time when Michele Bachmann — who represented her Minnesota district in Congress from 2007-2014 — was the lone, vocal, homophobic, reactionary, creationist female nutter in Congress. Inspired by the pioneering work of Phyllis Schlafley and Sarah Palin (whom she equated with Lady Liberty, which … oy), Bachmann was also on the front lines against the climate-change hoax, which she called “voodoo, nonsense, hocum.”
Carbon dioxide is natural. It is not harmful. It is a part of Earth’s life cycle. And yet we’re being told that we have to reduce this natural substance, reduce the American standard of living, to create an arbitrary reduction in something that is naturally occurring in Earth.
Yes, ma’am. One of a kind.
Sigh. Those were the days. Now we are positively awash in double-Xtremists. Ginni Thomas, who for decades was a reactionary whack job in the shadows, has now been fully outed as a QAnon insurrectionist. Ronna McDaniel, the head of the Republican National Committee, has turned the GOP into the political arm of Donald Trump’s reality-bending continuing criminal enterprise. Sarah Palin … well, she’s baaaaaack, running for Congress. Already inhabiting the lower house, pistol packing Lauren Boebert and anti-Semitic moron Marjorie Taylor Greene are vying to be the Nazi calendar girl of 2022. But just when you thought it would come down to a two-psychopath race, enters another manifestation of the Curse of Farenthold.
