Call me Manny. As in Handy Manny, which is my company. I actually have three businesses. My handyman service is one of them, which I do all alone. Another is Burrito Rapido, which is my brother-in-law Edgar’s quick-serve restaurant where I have a 10% stake mainly for doing maintenance and managing Sundays. The third one, I will not bullshit you, is in a legal gray area. It’s a sort of wholesale business for natural substances used in religious rituals, what I would say is approximately like sacramental wines in the Church. It’s more or less herbal remedies, but not exactly from herbs. It’s from the cactus family. Without giving you too much detail, I acquire the remedies from a source on a certain Navajo reservation and, because I am also an ordained minister, supply my congregation with these spiritual/medicinal earth treasures. I get a 300% markup to cover my pastoral expenses.

I don’t know if you know anything about small business, but it is amazing the synergies you can get if you have clientele in three different sectors who interact in day-to-day life. Another advantage is, since one of my enterprises is still viewed by some folks as not strictly kosher, it’s good to have a kind of mix of revenue streams. No need to spell this out, but conglomeration is the best laundry. See what I mean?
